PORTOBELLO ROAD, LONDON
The area made famous to the international crowd by the movie Notting Hill is located 3 kilometres west of Marble Arch. Portobello road is the main street in the area, and is, together with its many side streets, packed with small shops, restaurants and cafés. Every Saturday the whole area converts to a street market. If you are into food, and books, and tiny restaurants....., then spend a couple of hours at the Books for Cooks store. They have a massive selection, and a small restaurant in the back where they test recipes from the books. (Press/click text for more)
One of the most famous buildings in the area is Electric Cinema with its leather armchairs, small tables and a bar serving cocktails and champagne to accompany the movie. Electric Cinema celebrated their 100 years anniversary a couple of years back.
Have lunch or dinner at the Electric Diner next door. Here you can get everything from breakfast to a late night meal.
If you are into the movie, try to locate the blue door. It's there. A bit further up Portobello Road, you will find the Notting Hill branch of Pizza East, known for London's best pizza.
