CHILTERN FIREHOUSE

MARLEYBONE

It used to be salad at the Ivy, then Sushi at Nobu, and now still it's the red brick Chiltern Firehouse that is The Place to be and be seen, especially by celebrities. This small hotel combined restaurant in the rebuilt firehouse, is situated in Marleybone.

Prior reservation is a must, but easy to be made for lunch. A table for dinner may be more difficult due to the potential celebrity spotting.

The interior is in many ways homey shabby-chic. The ceilings are fabric covered, with nic nacs and pot plants everywhere, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The waiters are friendly and not as arrogant as you would expect.

The large open dining-room includes an open kitchen with a large oven. Both the interior and the menu resembles the French bistro style. The Portuguese head chef Nuno Mendes, has previously worked at El Bulli and this comes through in some of his dishes.

Breakfast is also available. If the weather is nice, try sitting outside in the courtyard, surrounded by potted plants and bushes. Great in the summer.
